This paper examines the structure of paragraphs and the teaching of proper paragraph structure skills. The topic sentence is usually the first sentence of a paragraph, but not necessarily. The first way to correct a run-on sentence is to separate the independent clauses into distinct sentences. Corrected sentence, using a verbal: The melting icicles dripped into the bucket below.
