This paper considers the role of foreign direct investment in China today as China's transition economy shifts from a socialist model to one nearer capitalism, suggesting that foreign investment plays a crucial role as does the transfer of technology and noting different ways in which FDI has served the economic needs of China and much of Asia in the last decade or more.
