This paper explores the tragic events of September 11, 2004 and how steps can be taken to militate against such loss of life again. Specifically, the paper looks at why the towers fell and what structural designs can prevent a recurrence. The paper highlights the comments and suggestions of a leading architect and suggests that the changes needed to make skyscrapers more impervious to such airborne attacks are not unfeasible.
