John Stuart Mill and the Problems of Utilitarianism.
This paper draws from John Stuart Mill's opening chapter in On Liberty, and refers to a several of the problems of Utilitarianism, as hinted by Mill in laying out the format of the book. This volume that first appeared in 1859, is said to be the most often read of Mill's philosophy and to hold much to which he referred elsewhere. For the purposes of this paper, On Liberty's first chapter was taken from a CDRom Internet version posted by Lyon of the University of Texas. (2002) According to Lyon, this version is from an early 20th century edition that was part of the Harvard Classics in philosophy series. (1909). The 1859 edition was released into the Public Domain in September of 1993. 6-pages, bibliography lists 6 sources.
