This four-page undergraduate paper discusses the importance of Gorgias' viewpoint in one of Plato plays. Gorgias was a great rhetorician and believed that the art of rhetoric could be used successful to persuade people. But While Socrates was not exactly against rhetoric, he firmly believed that persuasion was somehow linked with dishonesty and manipulation. On the other Gorgias felt that this art could be used for the good of the people and its purpose was not deception but only persuasion. 4 pgs, no bibliography.
