Egyptian Myths and Legends: An Analysis of Purpose
This four-page undergraduate paper examines Egyptian myths and legends and explains why they were written. The author notes that Egyptian myths and legends were initially oral myths that had to be told in order to exist and thus convey their meaning. As early Egyptian civilization developed and writing was created and came into use, the ancient myths and legends were written down in order that their timeless stories could be preserved accurately, so people would understand why the world was created, what role the gods played, and where humanity fit into the scheme of things.
