This paper explains different geological theories of the formation of the Grand Canyon and its rocks. The theories commonly attribute the formation to the process of erosion by the Colorado River, but disagree with regard to the period and the actual process. Geologists continue to debate on it, but continuous changes around the Grand Canyon pose problem to them to reach consensus.
