This paper analyzes two characters of two movies--Awakenings (1999) and The Nutty Professor (1996)--to show the wretchedness brought about by the perception of misfit and the paradox of normality. It explains how the two characters live up to the expectation of normality but fall in the category of abnormal when they return to normality.
