This paper examines the role of war and warfare in the Dutch Republic in the later 16th and early 17th centuries. It concentrates on Dutch policy and diplomacy, military organization and innovation, and actual outcomes. It concludes that the Dutch successfully employed the military to secure their independence and rise to commercial dominance. 12 pgs, bibliography lists 16 sources.
