This paper examines the use of first person narrative in the short stories, "My Side of the Matter," by Truman Capote and Raymond Carver's "The Bridle." In the former the narrator is very much present and exhibits considerable and significant bias in his recounting of events. In the latter the narrator is distant from the action, a peripheral character, and a largely disinterested observer with little apparent editorial opinion. 5 pgs. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
