This paper examines 'push' factors in immigration to Canada from Hong Kong in the 1990s. The dominant influence was the pending reversion of Hong Kong to the Peoples' Republic of China in 1999. Hong Kong was a bastion of capitalism and wealth, many individuals saw the PRC threatening their economic security and future and chose Canada as an alternative. 5 pgs.
