This paper is an examination of the history, objectives, and principles of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This paper looks at the history of HBCUs, examines some of the first HBCUs, and explains how they got their start and why. In addition, this paper discusses the principles and objectives of HBCUs and how these principles and objectives were shaped. Finally, this paper examines career opportunities for Computer Science majors at HBCUs and discusses what additional training beyond the Bachelor's degree is needed for students in this major to get a job in the field.
